B.A.R.E.
STUDENTS
By Jonah Valdez Nierves
Every
year SCC is active in helping congregations in the CARAGA
REGION by sending its BARE students to do various church-work
during the weekends. Their works includes door knocking
as they look for people that are interested to study
the Bible with them, inviting men, women and children
to attend Sunday school and worship services, visit
and encourage church members, distribute religious tracts
and WBS lessons, teach Sunday classes, lead singing,
and preach gospel sermons. This is part of their training
at Sunrise Christian College as future full-time gospel
preachers. Occasionally, some of the young ladies in
the Bible department go with them whenever they have
no assignments in the Bonbon Church.
The
most experienced worker among the BARE students is Jenjan
Damuy who is truly and sincerely interested to become
a good Bible teacher and gospel preacher. Jenjan is
a junior in college. He is assigned to work in the Del
Rosario Church of Christ in Del Rosario, Tobod, Surigao
del Norte. Assisting him in the del Rosario work is
another junior BARE student Sammy Sangyao. Sammy was
a former Pentecostal Church member. He learned the truth
at Sunrise Christian College and decided to train to
become a gospel preacher. He had been in two places
as Field-Worker for two summers. He is aggressive in
the performance of his given responsibilities, and he
has greatly improved in his pulpit work.
Another BARE student to watch is Renante Osano who came
to Sunrise last year with a BS degree in Criminology
from one of the colleges in South Cotabato. He has an
intense desire to become a good, effective gospel preacher.
Last summer he worked with Mabuhay Church of Christ
in Prosperidad, Agusan Sur and restored many of those
who have fallen away, and baptized four souls. He was
assisted by Crisanto Goyo of Bayugan, Agusan del Sur.
Osano just accepted an assignment to teach the auditorium
class in Bonbon during wednesday evening Bible class.
Jedy Olegario is also a Junior BARE student and he is
preaching for Salvacion Church of Christ in Salvacion,
Bayugan Agusan del Sur. Jedy hails from Tantangan South
Cotabato. Still another promising future gospel preacher
and would-be-school teacher hails from from away Ilagan,
Isabela in Luzon. He is Bal Lagua who finished his two
year Bible training in Manila School of Evangelism.
Although he taking up courses in Education, he is heavily
engaging himself in weekend preaching as well.
I will introduce to you more of our BARE students in
the next issue of the SUNRISER. However, one of the
new enrollees in the BARE degree program is Philip Brent
M. Cariaga, son of the Vice President of the college
and grandson of the founder of Sunrise Christian College.
He is an eloquent speaker and a fast developing orator.
Send your good and brilliant children to Sunrise Christian
College to be trained as gospel preachers. Truly, “the
harvest is plenteous but the laborers are few.”
