Students
enroll in college for many reasons. Even the good students, the
one who work hard to make the most of their opportunities, put
in long hours for a variety of reasons, so as in the Mission of
the church.
Many
times before I commit myself to go and do the mission training,
I had asked myself why should I. Suddenly I have seen something,
which has stirred my soul, and given me such encouragement for
the future of the Lord’s work. I see great army of Christian
women seeking. I see the services of God being swelled with Christian
women at last realizing that God will use what they have to glorify
him and bear fruit for his kingdom. I realized that in the mission,
personal interest is set aside, your focus must be on God. It
must not start on personal motives but to God alone. In real life
we can say that this is idealistic in sense but too difficult
to practice. But the real joy in it is that if you apply this
philosophy, you have actually accomplished the 50% of the whole
task.
There
is a quotation of William Butler Yeats it says, " The
light of lights, looks always on the motives not on the deeds."
Love
motivates my parent to support me with my current decision of
temporarily diverting my responsibility to them. They love my
Ritchelle, she’s my two-year-old baby. Before hand they
have known about the Central Baguio Church of Christ
program MISSIONARY TRAINING, and when they’ve
also known that I was being offered to have the training they
voluntarily convince me to go. My father was so proud of me that
he even asked me how did I come to know Bro. Alex. He was overwhelm
when I told him that I am being offered to join the missionary
training program, and be involved with the work of the Lord. He
even told me a joke and say " Sana anak naging lalaki ka
nalang." A rare opportunity such as this comes in our life
only but once and I don’t want to waste it. I know in my
heart that God really had made a way for me to work with him.
It is also love that motives me to give my best day by day. The
loving heart seeks to do things for the right reasons. As the
Lord t old the prophet Samuel " The Lord does not look
at the things man look at. Man looks at the appearance but
the Lord look at the heart (1 Sam. 16:7). Our motive for what
we do means everything to him.
On
my second day in the Missionary Training Program, we visited a
home with four prospects; they are Lailani, Arlynne, Jade and
Janice. They were so young yet they are very eager to learn anything
from the bible. As we go on with our study, two of them had realized
that they really have to study deep, and God really work inside
them because a week after they commit themselves for baptism.
Now Arlynne and Lailani are members of the church.
Second
interesting person I’ve been with while on my first month
on the training is sister Christy Mayor, this old lady had a big
heart. The first time she meet us as a team, she noticed that
we don’t have umbrella and it was raining so hard we were
soaked. She invited us in her little apartment and gave each one
of us an umbrella, gave us money to buy something for "merienda"
(snacks). I am so blessed by what she had done; because while
conversing with her that same day, we came to know that she is
in the midst of solving her financial shortage, yet she did not
consider giving as another burden to her but a work of a good
heart.
I
feel close to my baby when I’m with my children class in
Maria Basa, Pacdal. I teach children there every Friday afternoon
my pupils are: Din-din, Cleo, Kyle, Shania, Aaron, Ishmael,
AJ, Aldrich, Edmar, Sharon, Cookie and Lindsay, I really love
those kids. They are teachable and behave. When we sing a
song, I felt like I’m singing with the angels. God is good
all the time. All things work together for good when the center
of the work is he alone. He sees every heart; he knows the doer
and his motives. Surely if your motives are pure and beneficial
not to your self but for others, he will bless you with incomparable
riches in spirit, sources and values.
Going
back to the bible, there are characters that I really admire and
sometimes their qualities are seen in some people around us. Abraham
for example is an example of faith. Job an example of endurance.
Joseph is an example of holiness and forgiveness. Moses is an
example of humility. David is an example of worshippers of God.
Daniel is an example of courage. Peter is an example of boldness.
Paul is an example of self-sacrifice. John is an example of love.
But of all this is Jesus an example of all that is listed.
Jesus
himself made importance of our reasons for what we do and say
unmistakably clear. Be careful not to do your acts of righteousness
before men, to be seen by them, " He said in Matt.6:1
" if you do, you will have no reward from your father in
heaven. In other words, doing the right things in order to receive
the praise of the other people will get you that and nothing else.
Doing
the right thing for the right reason is a philosophy of Jesus
that we must always be aware of. It’s nice to be recognized
and praised when you had done something good for your brother
or sister but do not be motivated by such thought because there’s
a better reward when you choose to please God.
I
would want your prayer for the success of the MISSIONARY
TRAINING PROGRAM (MTP). This program is a challenge to
each and everyone, to know in his heart his motives on serving
God and his fellowmen. The reason is simple, most people feel
no real meaning in life; yet deep within each of us, God has planted
the truth that life aught to have meanings beyond "eat, drink
and be merry. And until we align ourselves with the purpose, we
can achieve and of all we want and will, still be bored and frustrated
and empty. The only thing I would want to share to you is that:
most of us are so busy, involved in many different things, that
we’ve got a lot more than fourlegs pointing at us. As a
result, our attention is divided. We just go with the flow of
the day by day routine, and we love sight of the larger issues
in life.
The
great causes and important works God has for us are easily overlooked
or endlessly postponed until some dreamed-of day when we’ll
have less responsibility and more free time.
We
need a central reference point - JESUS CHRIST
- and we need to stay focused on that point so that everything
we do is in proper perspective.
